Who here grew up with that story? Comment, yes, no, maybe, kind of, not really etc...

I haven't watched it, yet, but with all the reviews and critiques I've been reading, I can kind of make out that, it's not for kids, but for the kids who grew up reading it. The problem is, I was born in 1994- thirty years after its publication. The real adults- the adult adults, like, the twenty/thirty year old folks who grew up with it, might be old enough to understand the childlike magic in the book and understand the movie, but I'm only 15: I get the childlikd magic. What if I don't understand the adult portion of the movie?

When I was little, I remember reading Where the Wild Things Are, and thinking it was the most magical thing in the world. It made so much sense, the trouble Max went through, how he felt, why he did what he did... The feeling of wanting to be accepted and control things for a change. But when I go back and read it now, part of the magic, the thrill of it, is gone. I guess I'm not as much of a kid as I'd thought.

I wonder, if I showed the book to a child now, maybe Ryan and Piper, for instance, if they'd get what I don't. That kind of, "only kids" thing. Kind of like, the kids' version of "adults don't understand what teens do," except it's, "only we kids get it."

My school friends keep telling me it's a freaky creepy story. I think they've got no sense of sentimentality

I'm kind of nervous, though. I've requested that my parents go take me see it tonight, because I'm going to write my next newspaper report on it... comparing the book and the movie, the differences, similarities, and what it means to children and adults... but what if I don't get it? haha. it's like asking, 'What if my friend from kindergarten doesn't recognize me? Or what if I don't recognize him?'

*sigh* Anyone comment?

In other news, HALLOWEEN COSTUMES 8D

I started working on it today (it's late, I know! > < ) I took my shirt and started sketchig out the thingy majiger in charcoal (hope that stuff washes out). I'll go over it in ink later.

One thing, though, that I noticed about skeletons and the rest of human anatomy: Skeletons don't have boobies D:

It looks INCREDIBLY awkward, two tumors sticking out of the rib cage... ARGH, I hate mammary glands D:

I.. just got back from the theatre... and kind of glad I went alone. I cried so much. D: I felt better about being such a wussy, though, after the movie was over and the guy next to me was bent over sobbing.

Ugh.... what am I going to write for this report? Okay, obviously, I'm going to start with the book, how it appeals to kids, what it means, etc..... Then the movie..... the movie the movie the movie.....

there's a lot to figure out in the movie. Above the surface, just the face value, means NOTHING. it... doesn't make any sense if you don't delve into it. at all. like. every moment, you'd be thinking, WTF?

But the meanings are so apparent and so obvious that they're impossible to miss.

The meanings are still the same, from book to movie... it's about....







Adults not understanding... Because sometimes they're too busy with their world to understand. And so the kid becomes his own king, in a place where he makes the rules, where he makes everything okay. ... ish. Ah, it's so hard to explain!
